Thanks so much to Emma Mitchell for asking me to take part in the blog tour for We Have Lost the Chihuahuas by Paul Mathews and I’m sharing this fabulous guest post by Paul about being published and what happens around publication day!
So, your book is being published!
The Day Before
The day before actual publication is actually calmer than you might think. I’ll be preparing tweets, FB posts and new ad copy for ‘We Have Lost The Chihuahuas’. I’ll also be reminding my review team that the big day is nearly here and keeping an eye out for bloggers’ posts and reviews. But the e-book will have already been up for pre-order for four weeks, so I’ll already have a good number of sales in the bag, the blurb exactly how I want it, and any gremlins on Amazon (such as the new book not linking to other books in the series) will have been ironed out long ago.
I publish a new book every few months, so the timetable is pretty tight. I’ve usually already started writing the next book by the time the new one is about to launch. I don’t write in launch week, though – there are too many distractions!
On The Day
On the day itself, there are no balloons, party poppers or champagne corks being popped. It’s a tough day of social media messaging, emailing newsletter subscribers & book reviewers, updating websites, author profiles and all the other things that mention my books. I tend to rely on my memory rather than long lists of what to do, so there’s always something I forget. (I might keep this blog post handy, as a reminder..!)
My wife will be at work on publication day. However, my four-legged feline assistant Lulu will be with me – lounging on the sofa while I’m doing all the hard work. In the evening I have a Facebook party planned, which is a fun way to celebrate. You have to bring your own drinks, though..!
Finally, the most important thing is for me to buy my own book..!
About the book:
London, 2046. The British Republic has a new First Lady. She’s Californian, ‘in-your-face, for sure’ and she’s got big plans for a Buckingham Palace refurb. When her three Chihuahuas go missing, one man is determined to avoid getting dragged into it all. His name is Pond. Howie Pond – presidential spokesperson, retired secret agent and cat lover.
Meanwhile, Howie’s wife Britt is handed her first assignment as a National Security and Intelligence Service rookie – to solve the mystery of the missing canine trio.
Will Howie manage to slope off to the pub before he can be roped into help? Will Britt unmask the dognapper and grab the glory? Find out, in the latest, crazy comedy-thriller from dog-loving British author Paul Mathews.
About the author:
Paul Mathews is a quite funny British guy who’s managed to escape his day job and is currently on the run as a comedy novelist. His sharp, satirical – often surreal – sense of humour draws on 20 years as a British Government press officer, during which time he encountered politicians, senior civil servants, HR managers, and lots of other people who really sucked at their jobs.
His popular ‘We Have Lost’ comedy-thriller series set in 2040s London, starring beleaguered presidential spokesman and wannabe secret agent Howie Pond, currently comprises four titles with more on the way. Paul has read all the books at least ten times and highly recommends them.
Make him happy by signing up for his ‘Very Funny Newsletter’ here: www.quitefunnyguy.com/newsletter. If you don’t want to sign up for it, stay calm and do nothing.
Paul also owns a cat, Lulu, who works as his assistant. All fan mail to her, please.
